 ARTS AND CULTURE WEEK WORKSHOPS (April 11-16)

  Monday April 11th, 11-3,  Clay Paint - Mural on the bikeshed with Jen Gobby (240-4036) To bring - paintbrushes, mosaicy stuff.   Tuesday April 12th, 11-3:30 (with lunch break) Bookbinding with Jennifer Brant. (8669 -call to register)   Learn to stitch and bind a small, handmade journal.   To bring: whatever you can of the following materials with enough to share and inspire: -paper: recycled, coloured, drawing, old, sheet music etc. (anything you might want in a journal) -cardboard: non-corrugated (eg. cereal box, album cover) -nice paper for cover: old wrapping paper, a child's drawing, your old drawings or paintings, old maps etc. -interesting elements: envelopes, rubber stamps, glitter etc. Tools: -an exacto -a pencil -a ruler -a dishtowel or other piece of fabric...and if anyone has a cutting mat, bring it as they are very useful.   Wednesday April 13th, 11-3,  Mosaic Stars with Valeria (8691- call to confirm time) A small mosaic project using tile and pottery. Materials supplied.   Thursday April 14th, 1-4  Stitched Embellishment with Heather Cameron (8545) shisha mirrors, sequins, beads and embroidered borders.   *Basic supplies will be provided, but you are welcome to bring embroidery floss or perle cotton in your favourite colours, and any shiny, sparkly bits and bobs that you would like to incorporate in your work. Small, sharp scissors are also useful.   Friday April 15th, 1-4pm   Music of The Spheres with Sara de Rose (8582)   Why are there 12 notes in the octave? Why do 7 of these make up the major scale? Why are there sharps and flats?       *Using a musical string, a tape measure, the numbers 1 through 12, our eyes, ears and minds we will discover the inner patterns of music and how they relate to the ancient concept of the Music of the Spheres.  *Familiarity with basic music theory and a willingness to play with simple fractions is recommended.   All workshops at the Arts Center- $10 fee to the instructor

Community Arts Council

The Lasqueti Island Community Arts Council exists to support and nurture creativity on the island through sponsorships and community events. It maintains the Arts Centre: a small gallery used for exhibitions, life drawing groups, creative projects, poetry classes, and film screenings.
