Aspen Switzer Concert

Event Date:
Friday, February 20, 2009 - 6:30pm

Nelson musician Aspen Switzer is on the move again!  Since visiting Lasqueti in the fall she’s played venues from Oxford to  Budapest and now she is on the road in Canada again promoting her much anticipated second CD, "humble but bearing no apology".  Aspen kicks off the tour in the Kootenays, then moves on to the Shushwap/Okanagan and several Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island locations.

The concert here will be at the Lasqueti Community Hall on Friday, February 20.  Doors open at 6:30 and the music starts at 7:00 (FMI call JennyV @8601). Joining Aspen are her long time musical collaborators Jesse Lee and Jessa Koerber of Thistledowne.

Aspen's voice stops you in your tracks. It is powerful, subtle, pure and haunting, filled with longing, and an ethereal yet grounded quality. She has a clear sense of who she is. Her songs illuminate the stories of a young woman, wide awake, striving for balance in love, independence, aspirations and social responsibility and caring. Her trio sings flawless three-part harmonies, balancing the charm and warmth of old time music with the contemporary. If you like the music of Sara Harmer or The Wailin Jennys, chances are you'll like Aspen too.

Aspen's social interest and love for humanity is reflected in her concert history. She has played fundraisers and peace events ranging from Amnesty International's presentation of Maher Arar to the Our Way Home Reunion, where she opened for a presentation by George McGovern.

Aspen has plans for a solo tour of the Pacific Northwest before making her way back to Montréal to prepare for her circuit of Fringe Festivals this summer.  You can listen to her music and learn more about Aspen and her tour dates at www.aspenswitzer.com.
