Hi all Lasqueti:
I want to apologize to those at the Pub last Thursday. I was not on the island but I would not have been there even if I was on the island. I strongly believe that politics and alcohol should not be mixed, the choice of venue (In my opinion )was not in keeping with topics that need serious consideration. I invite any one to contact me at 8840 or at davidcliffordrogers [at] gmail [dot] com if you have concerns or just want to hear what I think.
In keeping with that thought I need to say that a main reason I am running at this time is to get our OCP ratified. The community has been involved with the process for years. It is time for me to step up and push it across the finish line. To that point I made a four page presentation to the last LTC meeting on August 29 2022. I was concerned that if the agenda package was accepted as written the recommendations from staff would be embedded in our OCP without consulting the community. There was one other short verbal statement in the town hall part of the meeting but that was all there was from the community. The trustees did vote to send the matter to the next LTC, I want to be there to finish the job for Lasqueti.
With regards to other things I feel are important: You will notice that my aspirations for future challenges / achievements are in point form and wide in spectrum, this is intentional, because I refuse to make a promise to my community that I can not keep. Since there will be many situations in the next four years which are not known or fully understood (at this time) all I can promise you is:
- to strongly advocate for the O.C.P. document that this community spent so much time to word in a precise and intentional manner conveying the thoughts, feelings and values of this community, to guide the decisions of future representatives
- to engage with individuals and the community in a meaningful manner to address wishes, concerns and to promote tolerance and understanding
- to promote the rural lifestyle that allows residents the freedom to be who they are
- to protect the island, its flora and fauna, both on the island and in the surrounding waters
- to liaise with other governing bodies, advocating for lasqueti and our community
advanced voting is October 5, 2022
