The qathet Regional District (qRD) is seeking to engage with Lasqueti Island residents regarding the two emergency dispatch system options currently being considered by the qathet Regional District.

At the June 30, 2022 Regional Board meeting, the Board directed staff to conduct public engagement over the coming two months to provide the public in Electoral Area 'E', Lasqueti Island, with relevant comparative information regarding Amended Option C and 9-1-1, the two emergency dispatch system options that are currently being considered for Lasqueti Island.

As part of this initiative, on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 12pm to 5pm, qRD staff and the Chief of the Lasqueti Island Fire Volunteer Department will host a drop-in information session at the Lasqueti Island Community Hall. Residents are invited to come meet staff and learn more about the two emergency dispatch options.

In addition to the information session, the qRD will be conducting a public survey which will be open to local residents for responses from July 28 until August 29, 2022. The data collected from this survey will be used to understand the public’s support for either emergency dispatch option. Hardcopies of the survey will be available at the public event on July 28 and at the Lasqueti Island Post Office afterwards. If you require assistance completing the survey, please contact the Emergency Services department at emergency [at] qathet [dot] ca or by calling 604-485-2260.

Electoral Area ‘E’ Director Andrew Fall expressed his support for local public engagement efforts stating, “Engaging with the Lasqueti Island community on the topic of Lasqueti Island Emergency Dispatch is critical, and ensures that local input is included as part of this important policy decision”.
