Action on LNG proposal

Hi Websters,

After reading the Trustee's notes in the latest I&T I thought I would try to post this letter that the Regional Board has sent to Premier Campbell to express local opposition to the LNG proposal on Texada. Texada Action Now has produced good material on the cons of the idea, available on their website @texadaactionnow.org . The proponents seem to be currently lying low back in Calgary, the Premier's Carbon initiative announcements and their hostile reception on Texada sent them packing to rejig their proposal, but personally I feel it's a non-starter given the carbon-conciousness that has blossomed in the past year. Opposition is virtually total and well organized. If you feel you want to contribute to the discussion a letter voicing your opinion to the Premier would be added to the pile in opposition to make decisions easier for the Minister in charge. Life on Lasqueti

"Lasqueti -- halfway between Dogpatch and Shangri-la"
as the island cookbook describes it.

Residents are accused of trying to put the clock back, living a self-sufficient lifestyle reminiscent of an earlier century.

LNG

No luck posting our letter, so I went to the Internet Centre and printed out  the TAN newsletter, letter to the Premier and the motions from the May Regional Board meeting that are going to the UBCM convention in September for ratification by the rest of the province. These documents are now posted at the PO and on the ferry for your perusal. I hope these things help alleviate anxiety re the LNG project. The Feds may have sent positive signals to the proponents but I feel concerted provincial opposition will prevail!

I admit that I am a foreigner. I just spent 11 magnificent days on Texada Island with my son , who came there in april of 2008. I have never travelled to the P.N.W. before.
it took 3 days for me to come down from the city ways, I am hooked, I love this Island. While here I heard a lot about Lasqueti Island. No electricity, I have spent some time at my camper on the Picanoc River in quebec, only propane was our source of cold and hot. I loved every minute of it, never missed the city, au contraire, I was always happy there. Because "nature makes us happier"
I do not want to come and live on your island, but I think I might like to come see it , visit it sometime. If I come with Thais, will it be o.k. with you?
I love what you are living there. I pray God's richest blessings for your Beautifull Island.
