Fire Safety
Update Sept 11: BC Forests has removed the ban on open fires. Small hand piled fires are now allowed. A machine built pile needs a burn reference number, obtainable by calling 1-888-797-1717
Update Sept 1st: Our fire danger rating has now been reduced to Moderate. Our area is expecting another week of warm and dry weather so this rating could change again before the fire season is fully over. While the prohibition on campfires has been lifted, no other back-yard burning is allowed at this time. For a Category 3 fire, (see www.bcwildfire.ca for more info), please call 1-888-797-1717 to obtain a burn reference number.
Update August 27th: While our fire danger rating is still listed as HIGH, BC Forests have removed the campfire ban across the whole of the Coastal Fire Zone. Backyard fires are still prohibited, For a complete view of the regulations, please visit bcwildfire.ca
Update August 17th: With the recent rainfall, our fire danger rating has been dropped one notch to "HIGH". This next week is expected to become hot and dry again and the ban on any open fires is still in effect.
As of noon, August 1st, a complete ban on any fires is being enacted for our area of the Coastal Fire Region. NO CAMPFIRES AND NO BACKYARD FIRES.
For anyone operating chain saws or other heavy equipment, please note that "early shift" regulations may come into effect within a few days. Please keep yourself informed by going to the BC Forest Service web-site, or by calling Coastal Fire Centre at 250-951-4222.
Lasqueti has a great record for being fire safe. Let's keep up the good work.

Coastal fire region - prohibitions and restrictions
As we continue to experience hot and dry conditions it is expected that a campfire ban will be put in place over the long weekend. Please keep updated on prohibitions and restrictions by referring to the Coastal region (Lasqueti's zone) at http://bcwildfire.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/Bans.asp
It is really very important
It is really very important information and we all should spread it as much as possible. Fire can prove very hazardous and therefore it is very important to take proper precautions.
