Hello from The Lasqueti Last Resort Society to our members, friends and the Lasqueti community. The last few months have been very busy ones for the society. As most of you know in 2011 we became owners of the property behind the fire hall/free store. This property was given to us by the Magic Mountain Co-op. Since that time we have done some clearing and put in a driveway. The society has also been very busy behind the scene with a committee interviewing three architects and starting to work with one of them. Carsten Jensen is a very experienced architect who has worked in Ontario and is now based in Qualicum Beach. The committee has had three meetings with Carsten on the island and we now have a working site plan and rough floor plans of the proposed buildings. We have another meeting with him in March and at that time we will look at elevations and three dimensional renderings of the health centre. We hope to have these drawings available at our March meeting. When this work is done we will be able to start planning for site services and for our power requirements. We will also be embarking on a major fund raising drive.
The health centre is going to be a multi-use building that will be a permanent location for the nurse and will provide space for other health care providers on the island. It will also have a meeting room and a respite space. This is a small living space for anyone on the island who for any reason, sickness, injury, hospital stay or any other reason cannot function in their own home for a short period.
Our March Meeting (always the third Wednesday of the month) is going to be very important. We need interested people to join our executive to bring the project of The Lasqueti Last Resort Society to build the community health centre to fruition.
Our Annual General Meeting is in June. We need, to stand at our annual meeting, a president, vice-president, and committee heads for our on-island fund raising, a head of off island fund raising, and a building committee head. We have a treasurer, and a recording secretary. We also need active people to work on all these committees.
