Marimba for Beginners

Learn basic rhythm patterns, marimba technique, and experience the joy of playing music for fun with a group of people.

We are running an  introductory workshop on Saturday, October 15th.

By the end of the workshop, the group will be able to play a song
together - fun!

No experience or musical ability required - just a positive attitude,
curiosity, and a willingness to try.

We need a minimum of 6 people and the cost would be $20 (We're open to trades)

We would also like to run a workshop specifically for kids some time.
If you have or know of a young person (say 8 - 18 years old)  who would like to learn to play Marimba, please contact Joseph - we'll run a special workshop for kids if there is enough interest.

ABOUT THE BAND

Makeke Marimba is a vibrant, energetic dance band from Lasqueti Island, B.C..  Our music is inspired by the Shona tradition of Zimbabwe. The music is based on ancient melodies and poly-rhythms originally played on mbira (elaborate wood and metal thumb pianos).
