MARIMBA ON THE DOCK TIME IS HERE!

Makeke Marimba plans to play on the dock, after the last ferry traffic, next Wednesday August 17th. This time we'll pass the hat to raise $$ for the new energy system at the Community Hall. Please come to turn out your pockets for this worthy project and to rock on the dock of the rock. Weather permitting of course.

Mary Jane's will be serving up Tacos - sure to be a stellar Lasqueti Summer Evening!

Here is information about the Hall improvements:

The LCA has now raised $8676 out of a total budget of $11,600 needed
to complete our upgrade of the Community Hall energy system.

You may already have noticed 4 lovely new solar panels on the Hall
roof, but there's more to do, including purchase and installation of a
new inverter and new batteries.

The funds received to date consist of $1100 from the Lasqueti Islands
Trust Climate Change Mitigation Project, $1100 from the Parksville-Qualicum
Foundation, $3000 from the BC Government Remote Communities
Implementation (RCI) fund, and $3076 donated by Lasqueti community
members, including several very substantial donations.  That leaves
$3000 (25% of the total) to be raised by donations from the community.

Let's have one final push and get this project done before the dark
days of winter.  Please come out for an evening of music and
friendship at False Bay dock on Wednesday August 17. We will be
passing the hat to raise funds for the Hall, so this would be a great
time to make a contribution. (We also will need some volunteer labour
to help with the final installation. Talk to Doug Hopwood, Daniel
Jacobs, or Jenny Vester about volunteering.)

ABOUT THE BAND

Makeke Marimba is a vibrant, energetic dance band from Lasqueti Island, B.C..  Our music is inspired by the Shona tradition of Zimbabwe. The music is based on ancient melodies and poly-rhythms originally played on mbira (elaborate wood and metal thumb pianos).
