Getting the most from your community website.

Our community website, lasqueti.ca, hosts over 85 pages maintained by local farms, artists, businesses, community groups, and hobbyists.   Over 400 registered users on the site have been posting their photos, announcements, events, and classified ads.  I’m hoping the recent upgrades will make the site easier to use for everyone, and that the site continues to serve as a community communication hub.  To help make the site more accessible for everyone, I’ll be running a series of free workshops through May on using the website:

Workshop 1:  Just the Basics - using lasqueti.ca

This introductory workshop focuses on the basics – how to find and post information on the site.  We’ll discover how the site is organized, explore how various Lasquetians are using the site, and learn how to create announcements and ads, how to use your personal blog to rant about whatever interests you, and how to post events and photos to the community calendar and photo gallery.

This workshop is aimed at complete beginners, and could include basic instruction about using a web browser and navigating on the internet, depending on the participants skill level.

Workshop 2: A Space of Your Own – managing a page on lasqueti.ca

Do you offer a service you want to let people know about?  Got an interest or hobby you want to share with the community?  Want to raise the profile of your community group?  A page on the website gives you a permanent “home” on the site, and once created, you have control over its content, so you can keep it up-to-date yourself.

This workshop is aimed at folks who want a page on lasqueti.ca.  We’ll demonstrate all aspects of how to edit and manage your page and how to attach content to your page (like announcements or a photo gallery).

Workshop 3: Mastering the Marketplace – listing products on lasqueti.ca

This workshop is aimed primarily at members of the Lasqueti Market Association, and others who have been using the site and want to do more with it.  We’ll learn how to use tools on the site to manage a list of products; demonstrate how to get your business, products, or services featured in Marketplace, and even show you how to add a “Pay Now” button to your page so people can buy your products right off the website.

All workshops in this series are offered free of charge, at the Internet centre, where you’ll get hands-on instruction and practice with the tools we’ll be learning to use.  Space is limited, so please let me know if you are interested in attending any of these workshops.  Dates and times will be coordinated with participants and announced on lasqueti.ca
