APC Best Practices Draft

The Advisory Planning Commission (APC) has completed a first draft of the

Best Practices for Building and Living on Lasqueti Island

for the Local Trust Committee.  This document attempts to synthesize local knowledge as a set of tips on sustainable design and construction of buildings, energy systems, water systems, and waste water systems on Lasqueti.

The document will also include a large suite of resources with more information about each topic, and a companion site on lasqueti.ca where ideas can be further explored, developed, discussed, and debated within the community (these components are in development - we welcome your contributions!).

This document is truly from our community and for our community - it does NOT in any way represent an attempt to introduce any additional by-laws or building codes, nor does it represent some outside agency trying to force a set of rules upon us. It is simply meant as a repository for some of the accumulated experience and expertise we have with living in this unique place.

A draft of the document is attached below - we welcome and encourage your feedback, comments, and suggestions - please send them by e-mail or mail to Peter Johnston.
