Last Resort Cook Book

The Last Resort Society’s book project: to celebrate Lasqueti food in all its dimensions - finding, growing, cooking, sharing, keeping and, of course, eating! -  is under way and we need your input.

At the moment we’re looking for observations, insights, stories and recipes about Lasqueti food during the “Fast And Furious” months of July and August. Specifically:

• Finding food is a year-round activity on the island. What do you collect or catch in July and August? What do you make with the berry bounty?  What do you catch in the ocean or gather on the beaches? What do you do with them?
   
• This is the time when Lasqueti gardens (even this year) are at or near their peak. Raspberries, figs and yellow plums. Tomatoes, cukes, corn, beans and especially zucchini.  Everything from the herb garden. What do you make from your garden or the market gardens that’s an extra special dish or meal?
   
• Are July and August wine making times for you? Do you have recipes to share?
   
• Summer potlucks: Tell us your favourite dishes, the ones that empty the bowls first. If they’re someone else’s dishes, name names. We won’t tell anyone.
   
• Barbeques: Your best grilled dishes: what do you cook – and on what?
   
• Your vacationing/visiting guests: How do you go about feeding them? How do you answer the question: “What can I bring?” Do you have all-time favourite recipes and/or meals to share?
  And (this is really important) do you have visitors who qualify as All Star Guests who are welcome back again and again. If so – what gives them the Top Star rating?
   
• If you yourselves are summer residents – or guests (All Star, hopefully) - what do you look forward to eating during your time on Lasqueti?
  Favourite foods? Favourite sources?
   
• Feeding kids, visiting or otherwise: what do you make or have that’s especially kid-friendly?

The (yet un-named) Lasqueti food book is an ambitious project. Please contribute: The greater the input, the better the book will be.  For more information....
