Legendary Guitarist Comes to Lasqueti
The Pat Coleman Quintet will be performing for the first time on Lasqueti Island, Saturday April 11, at The Blue Roof. The group features Mike Allen and Monik Nordine on saxophones, Pat Coleman on guitar, and Juno Award winners Ken Lister and Buff Allen on bass and drums respectively. Pat is truly a musicians' musician: he's performed and recorded with notables such as Quincy Jones (in the 1970's) Pat Laberbera, Tommy Banks, P.J. Perry and many more. The current quintet has the recent addition of Mike Allen on tenor saxophone, who won "Outstanding Jazz Recording 2003" at the Western Canadian Music Awards for his trio album "Dialectic" and is profiled in Mark Miller's "Miller Companion to Jazz in Canada". Monik is originally from Salt Spring Island and was a former student of Mike Allen's in the 1990's. She has appeared with artists such as Michael Buble, Rob McConnell, P.J. Perry, Paul Horn and more and appears on the album "Blue Comedy" with the Pat Coleman Quartet. Ken and Buff won Juno Awards working Hugh Fraser and are two of Canada's most sought after jazz players. The group will be performing some original material and some jazz standards. The concert starts at 8pm, admission is $10. Call (250) 755-5135 for information.
