November's Our Isle & Times
...will be in your Lasqueti mailbox today! Three Cheers for our Wonderful Posties!
BREAKING NEWS: Tobi Elliott, Trustee from Gabriola Island and Chair of Lasqueti's Local Trust Committee (LTC) announced at an Islands Trust Executive Committee meeting this morning @ 9:50am that she will no longer go to meetings on Lasqueti because "too many people attend the meeting" and she feels "really unsafe." When describing her safety concerns, she cited one person who she claimed repeatedly asked "will you support our local interests?"
There is more "Breaking" News on this month's cover!
The theme of the month is the Islands Trust latest attempt to take Lasqueti's last bit of autonomy away. We shine a light on their new, draft "Policy Statement" by showing how it differs from the one that currently governs us.
We are blessed to have a brand new piece written by the person (John Money) who not only chaired the entire Trust area for 6 years, he was a Trustee on Saturna Island for 21 years and was part of the Trust well before it became the Trust! When he chaired Lasqueti's LTC, our island reminded him of his island before car ferries and hydro transformed it, His words to all of us are clear: "PLEASE SPEAK UP and LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD."
Nina Green has again uncovered important truths, this time regarding the recent Cowichan Tribes court case regarding private property in Richmond.
Paul MacRae's Climate Science column makes its last appearance, at least for a while...don't miss it!
Donald Lee continues his insightful "Why Communism Cannot Work" column and Michelle Stirling takes apart another dangerously misleading media-this time a newly published book.
New voices report on John Carpay and the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedom's recent visit to Vancouver Island as well as the UN's attack on homeschooling families.
We have our first excerpt from Eco-Fascists, a recent book by Elizabeth Nickson who lives on Salt Spring Island.
Darren Grimes returns with another powerful piece while the recipe and gardening advice are very timely.
We also have good news in the latest Ferry Update and a contender for Lasqueti's Biggest Rat!
Plus all the regular features that make Our Isle & Times the fun and engaging read you've come to expect.
