Internet Center Update
Hey everyone, as the new youth intern at the Internet Center, I thought I’d fill you in on what’s going on lately. I’ll be around for the winter until about March, and I hope to make the Center a fun place to hang out, and have meetings and classes going on, so I’ll keep you posted on what’s happening.
The walls are looking a little empty, so I’d like to extend an invitation to any artists who would like to hang their art on the walls (for sale or whatever you want) it would be much appreciated.
Bartering welcome! While I’m around we won’t be actively seeking new volunteers for the center, but there are options available for memberships to be bartered:
- Anyone who wants to donate wood to keep our heating costs down can trade it for a membership.
- Anyone who wants to volunteer to clean for an hour (or garden? Build something?) can trade it for a one-month membership. A regular cleaning person would be great.
- Food bank donations (one donation pays for your internet session that day/evening) are strongly encouraged – leave it in the box on top of the fridge.
Internet Hours: We are going back to the regular internet hours as posted (I realize it’s been a little confusing as to when it is open lately, so I hope to clear that up).
This means that when the volunteer/intern is leaving, they are shutting the center until the next posted hours – this is to reduce the chaos factor, it is nothing personal! If you need an exception (there are some people who use the internet center as an office etc.) - talk to Rainie and she can arrange something with you.
Internet Payment: Just so you know - the most important thing to pay for in the internet center is the printing and photocopying. The paper, ink and upkeep of the machines is an extra cost to the center (above the funding it receives to operate). If you are short on funds or whatever, it is most important to pay for any printing/copying you do. Thanks guys!
That’s all for now, if you need to contact me I’m at (250) 619-2507 or email zoozoobubbles [at] riseup [dot] net (or come down during regular center hours).
Rainie’s phone number is 333-8565 and her email is zombrainie [at] hotmail [dot] com
