Firesmart Gulf Islands sessions

"Are you concerned about the impacts of climate change and wildfire in the Gulf Islands? Do you want to learn new tools to mitigate climate change and adapt to our shifting world?

FireSmart Gulf Islands is running an online workshop series on Wildfire and Climate Change. The series is hosted by Dr. Deb Morrison, a climate science educator living on Pender Island. The three workshops (Saturdays at 2pm starting June 13) will be hosted on the electronic Zoom platform, and are FREE to attend.

Registration is open, and you can choose to join one session, or all three! Use this link to sign up now: https://tinyurl.com/CCinGulfIslands

The first workshop is this Saturday (June 13) at 2pm. FireSmart Gulf Islands hopes to "see" you there!

Overview of the Workshops:

Climate Change in the Gulf Islands - June 13

This session will explore how the changes we see in the lands and waters of the Salish Sea connect to global climate change mechanisms. Specifically, we will highlight how different climate mitigation and adaptation efforts impact water and fire issues of the region.

Mitigation - Taking Local Action Now to Reduce the Risk of Wildfire - June 20

This session will help individuals, organizations, and governments within the Gulf Islands name what actions they can take to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in an effort to reduce global warming. Mitigation actions included in this session will address issues such as forest health, blue carbon, and land use planning.

Adaptation - Tools to Support Ecosystems in a Climate Crisis - June 27

This session will help individuals, organizations, and governments within the Gulf Islands name what actions they can take to adapt to the impacts of climate change such as increased fire risk, reduced fresh water, and increased storm activity.
