Lasqueti Island Local Trust Committee Moves to Electronic Meetings

This notice is to advise you of the upcoming Local Trust Committee (LTC) meeting which will be held electronically.

Trustees and staff will be participating in the meeting electronically and Lasqueti Island Local Trust Area residents and property owners will have the ability to listen and view the local trust committee meeting from their homes. All that is needed is a phone or a computer with access to the internet.

Given the current public health emergency, the LTC cannot hold a physical meeting on Lasqueti Island. However, the law requires local trust committees to provide a physical location, open to the public, when conducting electronic meetings. The Islands Trust Victoria office has been designated for that purpose.

The Islands Trust Victoria Office at 1627 Fort Street, Victoria, BC, provides electronic meeting facilities and space for social distancing, but the public are encouraged to stay home and to view and listen to the meeting electronically.

If the number of people attending the meeting in Victoria is too many to allow social distancing, it will be cancelled.

People can view and listen to the meeting through Zoom, an electronic video and audio conferencing system, which can be accessed by anyone through the internet, or by calling in from a cellphone or landline.

On March 26, 2020, the BC Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General issued an order (M083), allowing local governments to conduct electronic meetings without a location for the public to gather. The Islands Trust was not included in the order.
