The Regional Emergency Operations Centre would like to remind residents aged 65 and older that accessing non-medical assistance is just a phone call away through the Safe Seniors, Strong Communities Program. This service is available to all seniors living in Tla’amin Nation, the City of Powell River and throughout the qathet Regional District.

Seniors aged 65 and older can request volunteer help with grocery shopping, meal preparation and prescription pick-up during the COVID-19 pandemic. Seniors can also request to receive a friendly check-in call by dialing 2-1-1 or filling in an online form at www.bc211.ca. BC211 will monitor calls and online applications for the program, both from seniors wanting help and from volunteers willing to help. BC211 provides free information and referral to a full range of confidential community, social and government services, and operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

The ‘Better at Home’ program administered by inclusion Powell River, will match local volunteers with seniors who need a helping hand. The services provided follow all health and safety protocols and guidelines. The ‘Better at Home’ program is funded by the Province of British Columbia and managed through United Way of the Lower Mainland.

For more information on the BC211 program and local response, please contact inclusion Powell River Society – Better at Home Coordinator, Stacy Mogan at 604-485-4008 or email betterathome [at] inclusionpr [dot] ca.
