Health Center Referendum

One of the great things about this process is that we have been looking at what is going on on other islands. Saturna is a good example, because they have a similar number of residents, and are holding a similar referendum this election. Island Health (VIHA's new name) is supporting much more in terms of services there, including nurse, doctor, and mental health. My view is that if we can establish some reliable funding for the operations of the Health Center, we can and should push for equitable treatment from the health authority. I believe it will be easier to make the case for more locally provided medical services if we can demonstrate that we have a stable, reliable source of funding to keep the heat and lights on, since we will be asking for an investment of staff time and money from Island Health. Wishing the very best of health outcomes to us all,

Tim Peterson
