ARTS FESTIVAL
Our Annual Lasqueti Community Arts Festival is on the horizon!
The dates are Friday, July 1st and Saturday, the 2nd, and here’s a timeline of what’s been planned so far:
- On Friday afternoon, the Hall will be open for viewing artworks, from about 1:00 until 6:00
- Friday night is “Writers Read” at the Hall. Doors open at 7:00, readings start at 7:30 sharp. Entry at the door is $2.
This wonderful night of readings by local and visiting writers (stories, poetry, histories, comedy) is very popular, and seats fill up fast, so be on time!
- If you’d like to read something,, call Jenny Vester ( 333-8601)
- If you can contribute a dessert, call kitchen organizer Anna Dodds (1-250-751-9751)
She organizes the kitchen where the fabulous desserts are served.
- On Saturday, the action starts at noon, with music on the outdoor stage and viewing of arts and crafts of all sorts inside the Hall.
Festival Admission is $10 for adults. Under 19 is $5, and kiddies 6+under are free.
- Inside the Hall, “Pierres’ Café” will be open, serving hot drinks and little sweets in a quiet atmosphere, with occasional acoustic musicians performing.
- Outside, there’ll be face painting, a childrens’ art table, storytelling by Naomi Steinberg, the “Whole Hearted, Half Hour Painter” easel and various other pop-up entertainments. -Watch out for funny Lady Clowns!
- If you’d like to play on the stage, call Merrick (333-8773) to get a spot.
- If you’d like to display your art, call Sophia (333-8623) to reserve a panel or table.
- Take-down time will be 7:00 Sat. night.

- If you’d like to be a “W.H.1/2 Hr. Painter”, call Darzo (333-8819) and she’ll explain it to you and sign you up.
- “Bon-Anna” (Bonnie and Anna D.) will be making and selling meals and snacks in the outdoor kitchen.
- Ivy Runnings and Lori Garson will be running the outdoor drinks bar.
The fun, displays, music and entertainment will go on until about 7:00, and then we are very pleased to present “The Lonely Heartstrings Band” as the main evening music.
Coming from the U.S. and Canada, this group of very talented “Newgrass” musicians are not to be missed!
Later on, night-owls can boogie under the stars to “Beatfarmer”.
Volunteers are still needed in various areas.
Our Volunteer Co-Ordinator this year is the Mighty Aigul .

This yearly Arts Festival promotes our local artists and musicians, and provides the funding needed to keep the Community Arts Council afloat and vibrant. Don’t miss it!
