Local Fringe Playwright Looking to Help Out in Exchange For A Few Stories

Event Date:
Thursday, February 18, 2016

Dear Residents of Lasqueti Island,

But most importantly, to you who are reading this letter at present. I hope you are well!

My name is Olivia Etey. I am a playwright in my forth year at the University of British Columbia, double majoring in English Honors and Creative Writing. Shortly after New Years, my Fringe Festival dreams came true as Eric Rhys Miller of The Only Animal accepted my play proposal as a part of his Generation Hot Series. I shall spend this summer writing a play, which he shall produce as part of the Vancouver Fringe Festival. The topic I wish to pursue is living off grid! Thus, I was elated when I heard about your island!

I would love so much to meet with one of you in the community willing to speak with me. It would be wonderful to spend the day helping out around your home, or simply spend an hour in your company. I wish wholeheartedly to immerse myself in your world and learn as much as I can in preparation for writing my play. I am so inspired by your way of life, and I want to understand what my main character would need to sacrifice in order to embrace this lifestyle. I will need to become her, and I don't quite know how just yet! This is an experience I have dreamt of doing for a long time.

It would be an incredible honor and inspiration to meet with you. I would visit the island at your convenience.

Should you wish to meet with me too, please contact me at oletey [at] gmail [dot] com.
Or by phone at (604)-916-8762.

I can hardly wait to hear back from you! Have a spectacular day!

Sincerely & All the Best!

Olivia Etey
