Seasonal Maintenance Tips from Jessie's Path
A new season is freshly upon us and a great time to do some preventative maintenance around the home and for your engines. A little now can avoid a lot of pain in the future.
Woodstoves - Sweep chimney, clean ash box and change batteries in fire alarms.
Generators - Fuel conditioners to clean out any residues and improve efficiency. Change the oil and filters.
Batteries - Using a QUALITY hydrometer, check your state of charge. Refill with distilled H2O and equalize.
Chainsaws - Sharpen chain, clean filter and exhaust, check spark plug for appropriate gap.
Auto - Replace air filter, check belts and all fluids, Visual brake inspection and tire tread wear. Change the oil and add conditioner to the fuel to clean up any residue.
Closing the house for the winter? - Plumbing antifreeze into toilets. Fill all gas powered engines with fresh gas and stabilizer to overwinter and prevent condensation. Box of baking powder into the fridge to prevent odors from scenting up the house while you are away. Ensure someone has an emergency contact and is checking on your home.
Rats - Place traps near known entrances and shore up any holes with steel wool. Remove dead fall fruit and put into sealed composter
Plants - Top dress pots and beds with bonemeal for healthy root development over the winter. Prune back perennials. Feed all bulbs with phosphorus. Top dress fruit trees with clean wood ash.
Eaves - clean out gutters and repair holes/leaks with sikaflex
