Back yard Burning and Category 3 Burning allowed - September 03 2015

The burning restrictions on back yard burning and burning machine made piles ( category 2 & 3 ) have been lifted for our area.  Burn piles over 2 meters tall by 3 meters dia. (category 3) are allowed, however these fires require a burn reference number.  Category 2 fires (back yard burning) includes burn barrels and hand made piles less than 2 meters tall by 3 meters in dia, these fires don't require a burn reference number.   Anyone lighting any fire for any reason is responsible for the fire they have started.  Because fires are allowed doesn't mean we don't need to still pay close attention to the possibility that a fire may escape.  Have appropriate fire fighting equipment on hand and ensure you exercise due diligence with a fire watch until the fire is out.  On another note, if your chimney hasn't had a going over yet now is a good time. We made it this far but aren't out of the woods yet (pun intended).
