Marshall’s Beach Fish Trap/Community Picnic — July 31st
It was blowing 20 knots on Thursday, so even the most hardy of our boat operators decided it wasn’t a good day to land at Marshall’s Beach. Peter, Doug, Lucas, Ken, Wendy B and I went there on foot instead.
It’s been a while since I was at this amazing site and I was struck again about how very cool it is. The midden associated with the ancient village and the fish trap are extensive. The extent to which the beach had been engineered both to trap and hold fish and to increase clam production, is truly impressive.
It was so much fun visiting the site, and enjoying the low tide, that I want to go back and encourage more folks to come next time. For folks who are sure-footed and have good walking shoes, the 10 minute walk over the rocks from Doug and Chris’ beach to Marshall’s beach is a good way to get there if you don’t have a boat.
We’ll send out more details and a reminder later, but mark your calendars now.
In the meantime, to get you in the mood, you might want to read my article on the Marshall’s Beach fish trap from I&T 2004
