Last ditch (maybe) attempt to stop government approval of Texada coal project
From an email from VTAACC:
Today we placed a full page ad in the Times Colonist to ask Christy Clark to stand up for BC and say no on this issue.
We've been told it made an impression, and now we need to drive the point home every way we can -- by email, phone and social media. We need to appeal to the Premier and her caucus and to the NDP, so that the opposition helps make sure she does the right thing.
Can you help make this happen? Here are two things you can do:
1. Email the Liberal and NDP caucuses, separately, using the lists below. Ask the Liberals to take a stand on the issue. Ask the NDP to press the Liberals in question period (tomorrow is the final day!) Mention which riding you live in.
2. Call your MLAs' constituency office, the Premier's Office, or the NDP Legislative Office at the numbers below. A short simple message is all it takes: ask them to take a stand on this issue. This is extremely useful for ramping up the pressure!
At the very bottom of this message we've included background information you may find useful. More on our website.
This may be our last chance to persuade the Premier to do the right thing on this issue, and by reaching out you will make a difference!
Thanks for taking action.
Kevin, Donald and Kathy for VTACC.
PS -- Last week more than 50 faith leaders wrote to the Premier urging her to reject this project. Nearly 3800 British Columbians have written to the Premier requesting the same. On May 31 Oregon will announce a decision on coal port plans in that state, and Governor Kitzhaber has already clearly stated his opposition to such plans. Communities in California have already rejected coal port proposals, and Governor Inslee of Washington has strongly signalled his position on thermal coal export proposals, calling them "the largest decision we will make as a state from a carbon pollution standpoint."
BC stands alone in remaining silent on the issue of US thermal coal exports and risks isolation from its Pacific Coast partners in climate action. Momentum is on our side!
