Community Information Meeting on density and B&Bs
The Lasqueti Trust Committee's first Community Information Meeting is this Saturday, March 29. starting at 11:30, at the Community Hall. The main topics for discussion are density and B&B policies. A flier was mailed to all Lasqueti households Monday has details of what our current Official Community Plan (OCP) says on each of these issues, and a statement of "discussion wording" that is meant only as a means to begin the discussions.
Everyone with views on any of these issues (and if there is time, on other issues) is urged to attend the meeting. If you are not able to attend, please send your comments in writing, by email to falsebay [at] islandstrust [dot] bc [dot] ca or by mail to one of your local trustees or by fax to 250-247-7514. You could mail comments to the Islands Trust's northern office, attn: planner Linda Prowse, 700 North Road, Gabriola Island, BC V0R 1X3, but it won't get there in time for Saturday's meeting.
Coffee and tea will be provided at the meeting. Please bring your own lunch. Please read the details on the two topics provided in the flier mailed Monday. You might want to bring it to the meeting. Community discussion is the simplest and most direct way for us to hear and understand each other, and to see where we have areas of agreement, and areas where we don't.
The event that was to follow that evening has been re-scheduled.
The second Community Information Meeting, on hunting and parking in False Bay area, will be held on Saturday, April 26. A flier on these topics will be mailed shortly before the meeting date.
After the two Community Information Meetings, the Lasqueti Trust Committee (LTC) and staff will draft an OCP bylaw amendment, and if there is community agreement, will hold a formal Public Hearing (probably in August) for hearing from the electors and the public, and then (if there is support) the LTC will adopt the bylaw and amend the OCP - which also requires the approval of the minister.
Please participate in these community meetings, in whatever way you are able - in person, in writing, or by talking to your neighbours and your local trustees. "Together we can talk and solve our problems."
If you have questions or concerns, please contact one of your local trustees.
