notes from draft Lasqueti Trust Committee minutes

These notes are from the draft minutes. In a week or so, they will be officially accepted and posted on the Lasqueti page of the Trust's web site.  This is my posting, despite Susan's name and contact info appearing at the end.

False Bay Master Plan (FBMP) - Two meetings for discussion and consultation have been scheduled, both at the Community Hall from 11:30 til 3 on Saturdays.   Saturday, March 29 to discuss density/land use issues and secondary kitchens in B&Bs;  Saturday, April 26 to discuss hunting/shooting and parking in the False Bay area.   The meetings are scheduled so that off-island Lasqueti people can attend, as well as staff. As well as being at the meeting, input will be accepted in writing (as well as verbally) from people who can't or don't attend the meetings.  Being at the meeting is the way to ensure that your views are heard by others, and that you hear other views. Our planner will be investigating whether comments can be posted on the Trust's web site.

(This is not in the minutes; it's the process we need to follow after the community meetings:  staff and trustees will draw up draft documents to reflect consensus (or hopefully at least majority views) and will present the draft(s) to the community. When we feel there is community agreement, we will draft a bylaw to institute changes, give it first reading, and will hold a Public Hearing to listen to feedback from the community. This is required as part of changing our Land Use bylaws.)

An information flier will be sent out before each of these community information meetings.

Our chair was asked to send a letter to Western Pacific Marine and BC Ferry Corporation expressing concern about the complete lack of notice of temporary reduction in vessel capacity and suitability, and asking that we be consulted about ferry operations, and especially changes, through the LCA's Ferry Committee.

We appointed the following nine people to the Lasqueti Advisory Planning Commission:
Doane Grinnell
John O'Halloran
Nadine Simpson
Nikki Darwin
Shelley Garside
Sue Kristinsson
Tim Peterson
Tom Weinerth
Wayne Bright

The next scheduled business meeting of the Lasqueti Trust Committee is Thursday, May 1, 11am at the Arts Centre.  For this meeting, I will receive three extra printed agenda packages. I'll place them at the Post Office so that interested people can take them home to read and then bring them back for others to read. One copy will be labelled to stay at the Post Office, like the ones at the Hall, MaryJane's, Lasqueti Hotel (and the ferry if it is back with its bulletin board!).  Agenda packages will also be posted on the Trust's web site, and we want people who are interested to know what is going on, but we don't want to waste paper or other resources.

Local trustees are available and willing (maybe eager) to come to your neighbourhood to discuss the issues, if you arrange a time and place for your neighbourhood.  Questions and comments welcome.   Peter  8785   pjohnston [at] islandstrust [dot] bc [dot] ca    Susan  8589   smorrison [at] islandstrust [dot] bc [dot] ca
