Trust area eelgrass report
The final report on nearshore eelgrass inventory undertaken over the past two years by the Trust is posted on the web site at:

Two of the authors have been here a number of times, and have been excited about a place where the eelgrass is healthy and expanding. It's not something they see most places, apparently. Here's what it says about Lasqueti's eelgrass:
"Lasqueti was surveyed from July 17th to July 19th 2012. This island’s shoreline is composed of substrate formed from shallow stony deposits over bedrock. Shallow sandy/muddy benches extend into the subtidal zones. Eelgrass comprises approximately 13.8% of the island’s linear intertidal and subtidal shoreline. The majority of the eelgrass habitat is flat, dense and continuous. Most of the backshore lands were naturalized with little development. Possible impacts that could be
occurring would be from boat mooring buoys anchored within eelgrass habitats,
grazing by Canada geese, historical damage from log booming practices, hardened
shoreline modifications and site locations of some aquaculture enterprises. False Bay could benefit from more detailed eelgrass mapping, as the multiple mooring
buoys might be impacting eelgrass habitats."
There are two maps showing where Laqueti's eelgrass are located, and lots of information on eelgrass generally, and on other islands, including recommendations for preservation and enhancement of eelgrass beds.
