Think Tank!

Hello Everyone,

As a continuation and final step of my research related to Climate Change on Lasqueti, I will be doing a Climate Change 'Vulnerability Assessment' and 'Adaptation Plan' for Lasqueti. This research is for my Honours Thesis, and will be my final project for my undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies at McGill University in Montreal. My hope and goal is that the end product of this research will be of practical use to the community.

This is being supervised by Dr. James Ford of McGill whose work includes on helping people in the Canadian Arctic adapt to the changing climate.

Communities all of the world are looking at what the impacts of climate change are and will be in their areas, at how their communities are resilient or vulnerable to these impacts, and making plans to adapt to these expected changes. This type of plan, to be of value must come from the ground up and involve lots of community input throughout the process. I am looking for 8-12 people who would be interested in participating in a 'Think Tank'. This will involve attending 1 or 2 meetings held during July and August, here on Lasqueti, during which we will discuss in depth the expected climate change impacts in this area and what makes Lasqueti resilient and/or vulnerable to these impacts. Being part of this Think Tank will also involve a follow-up telephone meeting in the Fall of 2013 during which we will lay out the Adaptation Plan for Lasqueti. This will outline practical ways to reduce the ways we are vulnerable and build on the ways we are resilient, in hopes of increasing our ability to adapt to the expected changes in the climate as they happen.

I am looking for people from all walks of Lasqueti life: full timers, summer folk, land owners, renters, business owners, farmers, people of all ages, persuasions, and perspectives. Come discuss this important issue. Let's brainstorm and make a plan, together.

If you would like more information and/or would like to be part of the Think Tank, please contact me.

And a Huge Thanks to all who have participated in my research up to this point, letting me interview you and filling out all those surveys! I am so grateful. And please contact me as well if you'd like to hear about the results from my other research on Lasqueti in the last year. I'd love to share!
