public meetings on Edmonton-Burnaby piipeline expansion project

I received this invitation.  First Nations people, and others, ask that as many people attend the meetings as possible, and express as strongly as possible their opposition to enlarging the pipeline from Edmonton to Burnaby, and increasing the number of tankers entering and leaving Vancouver harbour.  They fear the Kinder Morgan might not mention the public opposition when they apply to the government for permits.

I am writing today to invite you to attend any of our upcoming public information sessions for the Trans Mountain Expansion Project - Kinder Morgan Canada’s proposed expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline from Edmonton to Burnaby. Public information sessions for the Trans Mountain Expansion Project will run for four dates on Vancouver Island and one on Salt Spring Island:

04 December 2012 - Nanaimo Info Session - drop in from 5pm-8pm Beban Park Social Centre, Rooms 1, 2, and 3 (2300 Bowen Road)

05 December 2012 - Greater Victoria Info Session - drop in from 5pm-8pm Cedar Hill Recreation Centre, Art 1 Room (3220 Cedar Hill Rd)

06 December 2012 - West Shore Info Session - drop in from 5pm-8pm Juan de Fuca Rec Centre, Fieldhouse Lower Area (1767 Island Highway)

08 December 2012 - Saanich Peninsula Info Session - drop in from 1pm-3pm Saanichton Learning Centre, Gymnasium (1649 Mount Newton Cross Road)

12 January 2013 - Salt Spring Island Info Session - drop in from 1pm-3pm Salt Spring Island Lions Hall (103 Bonnet Ave)

We have posted this information to our website. In addition, ads will be running in local newspapers over the next couple weeks. In total, we will have held 36 information sessions between Edmonton and Vancouver Island by January.

The purpose of these sessions are to introduce the project to the broader community and have project representatives on hand to answer questions. We will be handing out a Discussion Guide to attendees (also available at www.transmountain.com ) along with a feedback form to collect comments. For any community members who are unable to attend, we have also recently launched our online engagement platform: www.transmountain.com/talk where visitors can join discussion forums or ask questions of project staff online.

In addition to our project team, we have invited other marine agencies to be on hand, such as: the Pacific Pilotage Authority and the Western Canada Marine Response Corporation. They are in attendance as a resource to the public because of their responsibilities and/or respective jurisdiction over safe tanker management, emergency planning and spill response.

This is our first phase of broader public engagement as we build our application. We will be back out along the pipeline route early in the New Year to discuss routing options and we are still exploring what a follow up session might look like for the coastal region. This is part of what we hope to identify as we explore interests and concerns of coastal municipalities these next few months.

If you would like any more information on any of the above, please let me know.
Regards,

Chris Tupper
