Doors to the Friday night Writers Read portion of the Arts Festival
open at 6:30. Come early to get a good seat and enjoy some of the
delectable deserts for sale. Admission is by donation. Readings
begin at 7pm. Please plan to sit quietly and listen up. To respect
the desire of an attentive audience to hear the readings please leave
crying babies and noisy children at home. The line-up looks great
this year, some new readers, some familiar, some poems, some stories,
some surprises.
For something completely different, on Saturday we are going to
celebrate the art of Storytelling at the Festival. Keep your eye out
for details and directions to the faerie circle in the forest where
you can come to hear local and guest storytellers spin fairy tales
from around the world. One of the storytellers coming is Naomi
Steinberg, president of the Vancouver Storytellers Association and my
mentor for the past three years. Naomi is a gifted storyteller who
has traveled around the world studying and telling stories. She is
offering a one day workshop in Storytelling on Tuesday July 5th from
10-4ish.
