Workparty for Chautauqua Camp

Event Date:
Sunday, July 12, 2009 - 1:00pm

Location: Tucker Bay (behind comminity hall - first drive on right down Tucker Bay Rd.)

Work Party to prepare the camping site for the Chautauquans - 1 to 5 pm Sunday at Tucker Bay

Please contact Peter J. for more information.

At least a dozen people are needed to construct an outhouse, a log compost bin, a temporary washing station with sinks and taps, and a temporary outdoor solar shower. More people could help improve the trail from the camping site to the community hall, build and install a gate, and probably lots of other tasks to help get ready for the Chautauqua.

Please bring hand carpentry tools and fasteners and any 1by and 2by wood or plywood you can contribute. I think we have most of the plumbing fixtures we need, but if you have any you can bring in case we need to borrow them, that will be good.

here's the material list for a basic 4'x4' framed outhouse:

8 x 8' 2x4  (rafters + front corners)
6 x 6' 2x4  (top plates + rear corners)
8 x 4' 2x6  (floor headers & joists)

+ 2x4 scraps for building box (~dozen 2' - 3' lengths)

1x4 (or 1x??)) sheathing (can be scraps, 4' or longer)

and / or  3/4" plywood for floors and box (can be scraps and ends
with min. 4' wide), need only about one full sheet length, 8', in total.
(1x?? also suitable, depending on what's available).

Plus fasteners - 4" galvanized spiral nails or coated screws are what
we usually use for this kind of structure.

For simplicity, we'll sit the outhouse on a couple cedar skids we can
scavenge from the property.

We would also like to have some of the downed logs behind the community hall bucked into 2 foot lengths, and possibly some additional trees falled and bucked so that there is lots of firewood to be split up and stacked in the woodshed on the Friday Community Work Day. People willing to help with this, please contact Trevor Gear, 333-8552.
