Training: Pleasure Craft Operator's Licence

The local authorities: i.e. Coast Guard, RCMP or Local Harbour Authorities” have the power to ticket boaters for violation such as:

  • Not obeying speed limits                                                  $100.00
  • Careless operating of a boat                                            $200.00
  • Not having the required safety equipment onboard         $200.00
  • Not having the required proof of competency onboard    $250.00

Safety is a shared responsibility of Canadian waterways users and the organizations that govern them.  Boaters must operate their boats safely.
Fines range in size and are determined by the offence.  You can fine more information about the Contravention Regulations by visiting www.boatingsafety.gc.ca.   Please keep in mind while operating a pleasure craft on Canadian waterways comes under the “Canada Shipping Act 2001” which incorporates international and federal laws.  It governs ALL VESSELS operating in Canadian waters.

By September 15, 2009, everyone who operates a motorized pleasure craft must carry proof of competency on board at all times.  For more information on boating safety, please visit www.boatingsafety.gc.ca

If you require a Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card, “Nawash Marine Services” will be holding a PCOC training session at the Lasqueti Art Centre Sunday morning 14th June 2009 0900-1230 at a cost of $60.00 per person
