Fish Farms (from Alexandra Morton)

Hello

I have been been trying to bring reason to the fish farm situation for 20
years as they trampled my community of Echo Bay. In February BC Supreme
Court ruled that they are not “farms.” they are a fishery.  The
Fisheries Act  should always have been applied to these operations, but it
has not been and this is the crux of the problem. Now that they are
officially a fishery I think we stand a chance of getting government to use
the very powerful Fisheries Act to protect our fish, jobs, communities and
the economy of BC.

Just over 7,000 people have signed a letter asking DFO to apply the
Fisheries Act to fish “farms.”  I know there is no response when 1
person asked.  I am sure the government would enforce their laws if 1
million Canadians demanded this.

Somewhere between 1 and 1,000,000,000 is the fewest people required to get
this done.  I am wondering if there are people on Lasqueti Island that
would want to be part of this?

To read/sign the letter to apply the Fisheries Act to fish farms the way
it is applied to fishermen please click on the link below......... pass it
