Lasqueti Community Association

The LCA was established in 1971 and incorporated as a charitable organization in 1978.   The purpose of the organization is simple: “to promote community development.” An annual general meeting is held in the spring, usually early May. Anyone who either owns property on Lasqueti or has lived here for a minimum of six months may join.

The Community Hall

The LCA owns and operates the Lasqueti community hall.  A hired caretaker looks after the hall, in addition to volunteers who do firewood, various projects, and some upgrades.

The community hall is available for a wide variety of uses, currently including parties, weddings, concerts, a monthly coffee house, large and small performances, wintertime weekly community dinners, dance and movement classes and drop-ins, many kinds of workshops, meetings, band practices, classes, karate, volleyball, juggling, fundraisers, occasional markets, and large-scale projects such as sail lofting.

See below for our report for the LCA's 2020 AGM

We are very pleased to announce that our final report has been approved by the LCA executive.  It has been submitted to the Islands Trust and will be discussed at the February 24th Lasqueti Local Trust Council meeting. The 40 page report, which summarizes all your input on the existing and proposed objectives and details recommendations for revisions to our Official Community Plan based on that input can be downloaded below.

The existing Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw for Lasqueti can be found here

Our goal was to clarify the community's shared interests as Objectives for the new version of our Official Community Plan which guides and limits local government (including Islands Trust and qathet RD).  Our process has been to review the objectives in the existing OCP as well as new objectives collected from the community at community forums focussed on different topics:

Environmental Stewardship & Climate Change (Nov 2018)

Resource Stewardship (February 2019)

Community Services (April 2019)

Community Stewardship (June 2019)

Land Use (2 forums August & September 2019)

and a "Vision" gathering was also hosted in November 2019

Input collected at each forum then went to a sub-committee tasked with wording an edited set of objectives for that topic.

Forum slideshows and notes can be found below.

Thank you to everyone who contributed!
