Sheep-to-Shawl at the Fair

A group of spinners and weavers on the island are hoping to demonstrate the good old fashioned tradition of a sheep-to-shawl contest at our fall fair in September. We start the day with a raw fleece from a genuine Lasqueti sheep, and by day's end will have completed a beautiful handspun, handwoven 100% Lasquetian shawl, to be auctioned off as a fundraiser for the Last Resort. It might sound impossible, but is very do-able with good planning and a team of people to card, spin, weave, wind bobbins, go for cooling beverages, etc. It is a wonderful event to watch and/or participate in, so if you would like to join the fun, please call Heather at 8545 or Charline at 8883.

Also, we would like to hear from you if you have a portable loom (preferably 4-harness) to lend for the day.

Slow Down on Spring Bay Road

I live near that sharp corner of Spring Bay Road at Maple Bay. In the past year there have been numerous incidents where vehicles have rounded the corner too fast and ended up in the ditch. So far I don't think there have been any injuries, but it may just be a matter of time. The combination of a sharp downhill corner, loose gravel and lack of visibility means SLOW DOWN and take it easy.

Mending at the Market

Heather will be at the Saturday Market with a treadle sewing machine (thank you Sheila Ray!)to hem your pants, mend that hole in your pocket, sew a patch on your jeans or fix your zipper while you shop and enjoy the rest of the market. Give your favourite old clothes a new lease on life!

Thanks!
Heather

from Ciron Wade:

I'm looking for a place to WWOOF after [the next few days]. I'm interested in WWOOFing. Or if someone wants to employ me for a carpentry job I would also be happy to do that too. I have  experience doing carpentry work, and a little experience WWOOFing.    <cironleafstarplus@gmail.com>
